Bears do well at Sevens Tournament

Last weekend the Chinchilla Bears travelled to Kingaroy to take part in the Kingaroy Sevens Competition, where after a number of solid performances they advanced to the Quarter finals.

Held over 2 days, the Sevens comp attracts teams from the Wide Bay, Burnett, Darling Downs and Western Downs regions and consists of short, sharp 20min games in the seven a side format. The Bears nominated in both the Men's and Over 35s divisions.

After winning the first game on Saturday 1-0 against Virginia, the Bears went down 2-0 to Wests, then managed a 1-0 win with West Wanderers for the final game of the day. On Sunday they secured a 1-1 draw with Kawana Bananas. The draw ensured the boys had tallied enough points to place 2nd in their pool, and advance into the final rounds.

In the Quarter finals the Bears faced off against Kingaroy's Merry Men, 1st place from Pool A. The lads conceded a goal early however as the game continued they came up to pace and were able to score an equaliser. Unfortunately though the Merry Men again found the back of the net, knocking the Bears out of the competition.

The Over 35s team, managed to draw second on points in their pool, however did not proceed into the finals based on goal difference. Special mention to Ross Cardillo, Stewart Hope, Neil Stevenson and Brian Handasyde for strapping on their boots for both teams during the weekend.
